Which DJ Controller is right for me?

The world of DJ gear is no longer what it used to be, there are tabletops with USB, CD, Streaming. Record players in all shapes and sizes, DJ all-in-ones, DJ controllers, DJ apps and you name it.

In order to see the trees through the woods, we make an easy overview of what DJ Controllers actually exist and which ones best suit your application!

Software or USB sticks or Stream again?

Spotify / Algoriddim Djay (Discontinued)

In the software packages we have a choice of 5 major players, the only one that worked with Spotify (NOW NO LONGER) and therefore allows you to stream your music via a tablet, smartphone or laptop is Algoriddim Djay. Unfortunately, this will no longer be the case from July 2020 and it will only work with Soundcloud GO and Tidal! This is supported by a lot of controllers of which we give you a selection below. All controllers can be found at the link below:

Rekordbox DJ and Serato DJ

A second and third option are Rekordbox DJ and Serato DJ, these are very similar in terms of features and are therefore the most popular with us. Both support running with Video, streaming via Tidal, Soundcloud and Beatport and have their own series in the Pioneer range. You can discover these via the links below! With Serato DJ it is true that Serato DJ Intro is included with the smallest controllers, which is the 'light' version of Serato DJ. This is not the case with the Rekordbox DJ controllers, the Rekordbox DJ controllers have an advantage because the software that you use to make USB sticks for use with Pioneer devices is actually the same and you do not need a separate library in other software. going to make. This is especially interesting for DJs who regularly play on installations that are already there, usually Pioneer gear.

Virtual DJ

Virtual DJ remains an established standard, what we also see is that almost all former users of BPM Studio now work with Virtual DJ. The big advantage that this has over everything else is that you can easily create a playlist in advance and have it automatically mixed together by the software. Here is also the same story as with DJay that the software can be used by a variety of existing controllers. Which you can find in the link below!

USB Sticks and USB Sticks with streaming

As we mentioned above, Rekordbox is used to create USB sticks for Pioneer devices. This is the standard in the DJ world. Denon DJ has a similar system, this works with the Engine Prime software from Denon. The big advantage that Denon DJ currently has over Pioneer DJ is that their devices are equipped with a built-in WiFi chip and fully support Tidal. In other words, you can play all the songs in the world on the devices themselves and without a laptop if you have a Tidal account! Keep in mind that USB sticks made with Rekordbox also work on these players, USB sticks made with Engine Prime don't work properly on Pioneer players! Please note, we are only talking about USB sticks here, but with the Pro Media Players you can always use an SD card as well.

We rank all controllers below from beginner/advanced to professional!
